For Primary and Secondary Students
We have a wide array of primary source maps that illustrate the Battle of Rhode Island, but the cursive used makes them difficult for students to use. I am recommending a few maps that artists created to illustrate the battle.

This map was created by a map maker for the Black Regiment book by Linda Crotta Brennan. The author and the map maker have given us permission to use it for educational purposes.

I came across an older account of the Rhode Island Campaign by Eric O’D Taylor. It was illustrated with a maps by John Norman Benson who was a noted wood carver. The Benson family has given permission for these maps to be used for educational purposes.

The map below with its key is on the Patriot’s Park memorial that celebrates the Black Regiment.
